Los Totally Crustaceos Surf Fiesta European VQS Champs 10-11 For the first time, Ocean & Earth France was partner of VQS Cahmps Final. Incredible! Plage de la Madrague, Anglet, France, slowed down its usual rhythm last weekend for Los Totally Crustaceous Surf Fiesta! The European VQS Championships that gathered surfers from all around the old continent, who qualified in 2010 and 2011 during the Volcom Qualifying series. Andale pues! The sun was shining, the waves were pumping, Mariachis singing, and the cow skulls were baking below the cacti. Luckily sombreros and hammocks were providing the sufficient overheating safety. Around a 110 surfers crossed the border to enter the long time expected competition and get a shot at the zillion prizes, 4000€ prize money and one of the four one-week trips to compete to the famous World VQS Champs in Newport beach, California (50,000$ prize money). A huevo!And to excite the competitors appetite and spice up the salsa, Electric gave an extra 500€ to the best maneuver of the contest! Needless to say that the tails have been thrown, airs blasted and tubes hunt. Caribbean surfer, William Aliotti felt right at home and robbed the cash, landing a stylish frontside air reverse and winning the 500€ Electric Volt Thrower prize. Free enchiladas and chili con carne fed every compadres hunger and some refreshments were served all weekend long to beat the thirst. As usual there were four categories and the first to be crowned were the chamacos (groms 14 and under) that showed us some man moves on Domingo (Sunday) when the waves reached man size. This year, the revenge of the “Peninsula” surfers was clear, with 2 surfers on top of the podium and 2 Frenchies taking 3rd and 4th place. In the end, Natxo Gonzalez (not Nacho) from Sopelana claimed victory and the 2010-2011 European VQS Champion title in this division. On top of his sick trophy and sweet 500€ prize money, he walked home with a brand new Chili surfboard, a custom Wild electric guitar, a hammock, a million more prizes from our generous partners Electric, Ocean&Earth, FCS and Vans in addition to a trip to California!!!!!!!! No mames wuey!All finalists needed assistance to carry their prizes and couldn’t believe what just happened. In the Chavos (Juniors, 15-17) division, the battle was fierce and Ramzy Boukiam from Morocco took the win in front of William A., Ian Fontaine and Miles Hargreaves. He also won the trip to the World champs, plus 750€ prize money, another custom Wild Electric guitar and of course a ton of extra prizes that would need 2 donkeys to carry it all. In the Senoritas (Girls) final, another epic battle took place. Alizée Arnaud surfed really good all event but couldn’t find the exit of one barrel and took 2nd place, while Johanne Panzini from Reunion Island took the win with some solid turns in a very disputed final. Lucia Martino taking the 3rd place and Ariane Ochoa Torres taking 4th place. Johanne also won a trip to compete in the World VQS Champs next week, 750€ prize money, a guitar and million more things. The weekend ended with the supershow of the Vatos category (Pro-Am). The waves were still firing and every good ride received automatically an answer from an opponent. Local Romain Laulhé recovering from an injury surfed a bit more south, didn’t get the bombs and took 4th place (and 250€); Jose Maria Cabrera from Lanzarote recovering from an injury too, threw his usual massive sprays and took 3rd place (and 250€); Dimitri Ouvre from Guadeloupe Island was outstanding all contest long but only took 2nd place (and 500€) because an on fire Pierre Valentin Laborde wouldn’t let anyone get his trophy. PV was literally destroying every piece of wave he could find on his way, combining for example an alley-oop with a cut back re-entry reverse with a couple more turns on a single wave…He got crowned European VQS champion, got a sweet 1000€ check, a trip to California, and needed three more versions of himself to carry his other prizes home. The weekend was epic and MexicAnglet will be missed by all, but a new European VQS season will kick off next month so go enter one of these to the beach near you, it is FREE and a lot of fun. Team Australia Fly Their Flags High On Day 6 at Billabong ISA World Surfing Games

LIMA/PERU (Tuesday 26th October, 2010): AMID the head-high rights at Punta Hermosa, TravelSIM Team Australia moved a step closer to a podium finish at the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games presented by Amarok of Volkswagen with a strong bag of results in Peru today.

Former ASP Women’s World Champion Chelsea Hedges (Tweed Heads, NSW) advanced to the Open Women’s Qualify round 4, after showcasing an inspirational performance to take out her round 3 heat.

Hedges surfed smart and held two moderate scores until she pulled out an 9.0 at the last second to triple her opponent’s scores with an impressive two-wave total of 14.00 (out of a possible 20).

The emotion in the repercharge rounds lit up the beach, with each team’s fans shouting and applauding wave after wave for their compatriots.
Former ISA gold medallist Mick Campbell (Port Macquarie, NSW) surfed twice throughout the day in his two Open Men’s Repercharge heats to progress into the 8th Round.
Campbell’s ISA surfing experience will spur on TravelSIM Team Australia to continue their battle and ensure Australia retains its stature as the number one surfing nation in the world.

“It is special surfing under the Aussie flag. The team we have is amazing and I’m just pumped to surf in this huge event,” said Campbell.

The Australian longboarders provided the spectators with a visual feast of multiple combinations, radical rail transitions and elegant footwork to remain in the hunt for a medal.
Former ASP Men’s World Longboard champion Josh Constable (Peregian Beach, Qld) and reigning ASP Men’s Longboard champion Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach, NSW) both placed 2nd in their round 3 heats, to advance into the Longboard Qualify round 4.

ASP Women’s World Tour competitor Rebecca Woods (Copacabana, NSW) was caught up in the fierce competition of the elimination round and is unfortunately out of the event.
Woods failed to progress from the 5th Open Women’s Repercharge round after placing 3rd with a two-wave total of 10.33 (out of a possible 20), but will carry on her Aussie pride by cheering on her fellow Australian team mates till the end of the competition.

(Avalon, NSW – Sunday, 31 October 2010): The North Avalon instalment of the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage has provided yet another amazing insight into the future of Australian surfing.

Providing an innovative and fresh approach to the traditional junior surfing competition in an effort to unearth the new wave of Australian surfing talent, competitors, over the two-day period, took advantage of the progressive format.

Jordi Lawler (North Narrabeen, NSW) claimed the prestigious 16 years division of the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage today at North Avalon in style.

Greeted with excellent conditions over the weekend, high scores were the order of the event with a number of near perfect rides highlighting the amazing talent on show.

Leading from the front was 16 years boys champion Jordi Lawler (North Narrabeen, NSW), who had been on a mission throughout the entire event.

Racking up the highest heat score of the day, with a blistering 17.16 (out of a possible 20), Lawler felt at home in the two to three foot conditions.

“There’s some fun little waves out there,” he said with a smile.

“The waves today are a lot like my normal break at North Narrabeen, so I felt pretty comfortable.”

Audrey Styman-Lane (Avalon, NSW) claimed the prestigious 16 years division of the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage today at North Avalon in style.

Seeing the best surfers under 16 years from the Northern Beaches and Central Coast regions, living between Sydney Harbour and Lake Macquarie, Lawler rose above the pack, continuing on his recent run of good form.

Adding further incentive to this event, which is one of a dozen international events being staged throughout the year, is that it will act as a qualifying event to the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage.

The top four surfers in the male divisions and the highest two from the female divisions qualifying for the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage to be held on 21-23 January, 2011 at Cronulla.

“I’m glad the international Rampage is at Cronulla I seem to go okay there every time I’m there,” he said.

“I have made a few finals lately but have not been able to win so I’m stoked I got the win on this one especially as it is a qualifier through to the next round.”

Sam Bond (Avalon, NSW) claimed the prestigious 13 years division of the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage today at North Avalon in style.

Unlike other surfing competitions, the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage allows competitors, 16 years and under, to surf three heats each without elimination instead of the traditional cutthroat format.

With a leader board format that rewards consistency and fun, the four best-placed surfers in the each division will progress to their division final.

Joining Lawler in the winners circle today was local favourite Audrey Styman-Lane (Avalon, NSW), who claimed the 16 years girls division. Outpointing her sister Grace in an enthralling final, Audrey was gracious in victory.

“Me and my sister have a good rivalry going on it pushes both of our surfing,” she admitted.

“But, in saying that I’m so glad that I won, I’m really excited to be able to surf in the International Final.”

Having recently taken out the Honey Women’s Classic in Cronulla a mere two weeks ago, Styman-Lane was over the moon to get the win today at home.

“This was definitely the biggest event I have ever won.”

“It feels like I’m on a bit of a roll, so hopefully I can take this into the Final in Cronulla.”

In the 13 years division Holly Wawn (Newport, NSW) took out the final with a strong performance, accruing 11.40 (out of a possible 20), whilst in the 13 years boys division local phenom Sam Bond (Avalon, NSW) took the crown with a combined heat score of 13.17 (out of a possible 20).

World Champion Andy Irons Passes Away
Andy Irons (HAW), 32, former three-time ASP World Champion, passed away from illness-related complications while en route back to Kauai.

Andy Irons (HAW), 32, three-time ASP World Champion, passed away today en-route from Puerto Rico back home to Kauai from complications due to illness.

Official Irons Family Statement:

The world of surfing mourns an incredibly sad loss today with the news that Hawaii’s Andy Irons has died. Andy was a beloved husband, and a true champion.

Irons, 32, withdrew from a professional surfing event in Puerto Rico last weekend due to illness, and passed away during a layover en-route to his home in Kauai, Hawaii. He had reportedly been battling with Dengue Fever, a viral disease.

At this time the family thanks his friends and fans for their support, and asks that the community respect its privacy. The family also asks to not be contacted so their focus can remain on one another during this time of profound loss.

Irons, who began his career with the elite ASP World Tour in 1998, went on to collect 20 elite tour victories, four Triple Crown of Surfing Titles, three consecutive ASP World Titles and change the sport forever with his unparalleled ability and comprehensive approach to surfing.

The thoughts and sympathies of the O&E family go out to the Irons family as the entire sporting world mourns this tragedy.

LENNOX Head dynamo Kirsten Ogden today captured the 16 and under Girls division of the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage, qualifying for the international leg of the prestigious junior surfing series.

Held in excellent conditions at Duranbah Beach, Ogden powerfully attacked the beach break peaks on the final day of competition, scoring a combined two-wave heat total of 16.00 (out of a possible 20) including a nine-point ride (out of a possible 10) in the final to defeat Amiya Doyle (Coolangatta, Qld), Brodie Doyle (Coolangatta, Qld) and Letarcia Hurt (Kingscliff, NSW).

Ogden said she was stoked to be crowned the Gold Coast Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage Champion.

“I was able to open the final with a really good ride and that helped my confidence throughout the heat,” said Ogden. “There haven’t been many waves around for quite a while so it was nice to get some good conditions during an event,” she said.

In similar style, Byron Bay rising star Soli Bailey outclassed his fellow finalists Tom Snellgrove (Lennox Head, NSW), Mitch Parkinson (Coolangatta, Qld) and Jake Cumberland (Kirra, Qld) to win the blue ribbon 16 and Under Boys division.

Bailey blitzed the final, scoring a combined two-wave heat total of 16.37 (out of a possible 20) including a near-perfect 9.87 ride (out of a possible 10). Meanwhile, Alyssa Lock and Zac Wightman captured victory in the 13 and under Girls and the 13 and under Boys Division respectively.

Reigning 16 and Under Boys Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage champion Noa Deane (Coolangatta, Qld) will be back this weekend to defend his title on the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Queensland, Tuesday 14th September, 2010: TEENAGE surfers from across the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales will converge on Duranbah Beach this weekend for the annual Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage.

Running from September 18-19, the ever popular Gold Coast Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage will see upwards of 80 competitors take to the waves during the two-day event.

In the quest to discover Australia’s next young surfing talent, the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage provides a participation focused approach to the traditional junior surfing event.

Contrary to the cutthroat nature of traditional surfing competitions, the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage allows competitors to surf three heats without elimination.

Developed in conjunction with former Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour competitor Phil Macdonald (Tomakin, NSW), the Teenage Rampage was a concept developed to promote confidence, fun and provide valuable experience for Australia’s budding surf stars.

After overwhelming demand, Ocean & Earth added an extra Teenage Rampage to their Queensland schedule with the Queensland leg of the national series now boasting two events – Gold Coast September 18-19 and Sunshine Coast September 25.

The Gold Coast Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage is open to competitors living south of the Brisbane River and north or the Richmond River.

This year’s Billabong Pro J Bay has kicked off with cranking waves dished up on day one of the waiting period.

Cambo narrowly went down to CoolShoe rider Chris Davidson despite executing some trademark power turns and is now preparing for a second round matchup.

Owen Wright and Drew Courtney came up against each other in round one with Owen getting the choice waves and advancing to round 3. While Travis logie pumped up to be on home soil takes second and drew 3rd leaving the latter to fight it out in round 2.

The vision of driving up the coast and finding the perfect, uncrowded wave, is the adventure that every surfer lives for. My vision was not different, except for the fact that, I was waiting on three grommets to arrive at my house, who were running four hours late. They had forgotten to put their alarm clocks on, and instead of arriving at my house at seven in the morning, the old commodore wagon with Britney Spears blaring, didn’t touch down till eleven o’clock. I was furious!!!

The plan was to leave at seven in the morning so we could get a surf in late that afternoon. The drive was going to be nine hours, give or take half an hour each way. My friend had rang me, the night before, frothing about this point break, which was barrelling for three hundred metres. All night I had visions of surfing this wave, frothing that after three weeks of no surf, I would be getting barrelled!!!! But no, the grommets blew all of this.

Jumping out of the car was Chaz Raynor, Matty King and video extordanaire Toby Cregan. With a cheeky grin on his face, Kingy asked me if we would get a surf in today. I lost it, and sent them into the backseat of the car in silence. The drive ended up taking eight an a half hours, due to my unrealistic vision of getting a surf in before dark. This didn’t happen either. We arrived at seven thirty that night and the darkness of the night had all but swallowed my vision of getting perfect waves that day. Not to worry there is always tomorrow….

The next day we woke early and headed straight down to Lennox Head, to watch the finals of the Gromfest. The waves were clean and there was a nice four feet plus, east swell hitting the friendly beach break. Wow!!!! The standard of surfing these days at a junior level just blows me away. Eleven-year-old kids are doing air reverses!! I remember when I was growing up, if you could do a cutback or re-entry you were on fire. How things have changed! It’s great to see all the parents really supporting their kids these days and now actually realizing that surfing is a legitimate career path. It was really entertaining to watch these future champs surf all day, and it was equally great to see the Ocean and Earth team do well.

Mikey Wright, who recently joined the surf accessories team, was the highlight, winning the 14 boys, for the second straight year. Young Kalani Ball from Stanwell Park also ripped it apart, coming in fourth. In the 12 years boys, super grom Riley Laing got a fourth, and in the 16 boys Zac Scott pulled out some big moves, only to fall short in the dieing minutes, to claim a hard fought second.

The next morning I woke up, even more psyched to surf. After watching the groms go ballistic all day and enduring another surf less day, it was game on. Waking grommets up early, isn’t an easy thing, but a splash of cold water, always gets them jumping. Mikey Wright messaged me early, and said he had found a fun little beach break. I was hoping to surf the points, but the swell had dropped overnight to around three feet. The wind was offshore, the sun was out and the ocean was clean as could be. The tide would be dropping all day, which Mikey seemed to think would improve the waves. Chaz and Matty were frothing, but I think I was frothing more. I was the first one to hit the water, which was super warm, and the long clean lefts were looking more and more inviting the closer I got to them.

The kids were ripping. Chaz and Matty were belting the lefts, while Mikey was boosting on the rights. We were joined by more grommets, which included Sean Mawson, Kalani Ball, Mark Williams and Josh Szele. Things really intensified, with the groms scratching around, all over the line up, taking off on any wave and belt any section. As the tide dropped, the left started draining. It was a little small for my big rig to fit inside the little green cabins, but some of the groms were nearly standing in them. After four hours of surfing, we had to re fuel, so the call was to get to the nearest bakery, then come straight back out.

With bellies full of pies, we ventured back to the left bank, which had been such a great host to us all morning. Unfortunately the wind had come up strongly from the northeast, which was quite unusual for this time of the year. We headed to the northern protected corners, but found no banks, so we pulled the pin for the day, hoping that the predicted east swell would hit over night.

The next morning we gain woke bright and early. This time the groms were already up, and packed in the car. Finally they were starting to learn!! The groms were really focused on surfing a right-hander, but the swell hadn’t lived up to expectations, so again we headed back to Mikey’s bank.

Shane Wehner was with us this time. I grew up with Shane on the South Coast of N.S.W, and it’s always great to surf with him. Shane was on the WCT for a few years and also got runner-up at pipe one year, and has been living in Byron for the past ten years.

We pulled up in front of the break to a pleasant surprise, four feet barrelling lefts. Word must of got out the day before about the bank, so the crowd had defiantly increased, but still there were plenty of waves for everyone. The kids were first out this time, and now it was like double over-head for them. The swell had come up a foot or so over night from the east, the wind was offshore and the sun was shining. I had a bit of a shocker this session, sitting too far up the point, but Shane and the groms were on to it, grabbing the inside drainers. Shane was on fire, he was getting barrelled every wave, sometimes twice. He has always been one of the better tube riders I have seen, and even still to day, in his old age, he still has it.

The waves pumped for four hours, until the wind and tide ruined the one hundred metre rides. The grommets had been pestering me to take them out a right point break, so as the northeast wind grew stronger, I decided to shut them up. The point break was four feet now, the tide looked right, but the wind was howling onshore. The groms didn’t mind, they paddled straight out, without looking. After watching the groms rip apart the long onshore waves, I decided to join them. To my surprise it was really fun and I got some of the longest rides I have had for over a year. The best things that on shore winds bring, are no crowds.

The next morning was going to pump. I had a taste of the potential the right hand point had to offer, and with the swell increasing, I new everything was falling into place. The plan was to get barrelled all morning, then hit the highway for home. Driving down the hill onto the ocean I become a little disturbed! Are they white caps I am seeing? Nooooooo!! The northeast wind was still up, and it was howling…my visions of perfect waves disappeared and my thoughts of nine hours driving with grommets took over.

The nine-hour drive home took a little longer then expected due to a little surprise. On the way home we were still frothing for some kind of surf, so we decided to start checking a few spots. Everywhere was pretty ordinary, but as we got within four hours of home, the wind decided to be our friend. The wind swung westerly. With the swell around five feet out of the north, and the wind dead offshore, I started frothing again. The groms by this staged wanted to keep driving home, but my visions of surfing the perfect wave come flooding back.

We found an empty beach break, with reeling four to five feet barrels. Finally this is it!!!! First wave Matty pulled into a screamer, just to be shut down at the end. The very next wave Chaz pulled in deep, but got knocked off by the foam ball. I decided to wait for a bomb. The tide was dropping, and as it did the sets began to closeout more and more. I waited for half an hour for my first wave, got a nice barrel, but then went straight into a closeout. Things didn’t get any better. By the time I paddled in an hour later, the waves were all but a closing out, and I had only taken off on two waves. The groms were laughing at me now, and telling me we should have driven straight home instead.

Four hours later and after listening to groms talk about all their devious adventures; I was in the safety of my own home. The trip was only four days long all together, but I had a really good time. The groms were off to school next week and me back to work. I never really got to surf the perfect wave I had visions about. Maybe I would have, if the grommets weren’t so late…. But just to get in your car and drive up the coast for a few days of surfing is good enough anyway, even if you don’t get to surf the perfect wave….

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 June, 2010 : -- - Final day for Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Japan Tour Junior Qualifying Series Grade-1 Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage commenced this morning at Heisaura Beach in Chiba this morning. The local weather in Heisaura Beach was partly cloudy with rain with hevy on shore winds with waves in the 1 to 3ft.(0.5 meters) range.

ASP Japan Tour Manager Masao Ogawa called this morning 9:30am to crown 2010 edition event new champions. The conditions turned testy but the best pro juniors bravely surfed with testimony and high tactics with complete dedication to the sport.

Kaito Ohashi, Hiroto Arai, Hiroto Ohara, and Kento Takahashi showed excellence to make the finals. Kaito Ohashi victors. Also they have girls WJS QS Nao Omura, Nagisa Tashiro, Reika Noro and Minato Takahashi are 4 finalists and Nao Omura claims 1st one for 2010 qualify champion in the testy conditions.

Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage boasts the total prize money USD$5000 on offer. Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage is an annual pro junior event and until last year it was held with Hyuga Pro in Hyuga city in Miyazaki Kyushu at October, but 2010 edition the event independent will be moved to Heisaura Beach in Chiba.

2010 will be the inaugural year for the WJT to be a series tour. Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage will serve to be the opening event for the Japan Branch surfers to qualify for the prestigious WJT events in 2010.

ZARBI Tour 2010 - 4e édition

Concept événementiel mêlant déguisement et engagement sur 4 épreuves de 2 jours dans les Pyrénées atlantiques : le samedi, compétition déguisée ; le dimanche, compétition engagée !
Voici le bilan du plus déjanté des événements…

1ere étape : le ZARBI snow
Date : 13 & 14 Mars
Lieu : Gourette (64)
Conditions climatiques : youpi ! yahou !
Après un échauffement mené par nos deux coachs de notoriété intercontinentale : Eva et Greta, ce sont les muscles chauds et les articulations dérouillées que les zarbicipants se sont affrontés !
Les skieurs et snowboarders se sont donc élancés sur un ZARBI slalom imposant aux concurrents de déchausser au milieu du parcours afin d’enfourcher un bodyboard et franchir la ligne d’arrivée le plus rapidement possible.
La fin de la journée se termina par un ZaRb’n style où les participants s’exécutèrent sur des figures complètement folles. Le best trick (meilleure figure) du « Von zipPer de rien », partenaire de l’événement, fut remporté par Vincent Paris !
Place au freestyle pour le dimanChe ! Le rendez-vous était donné sur le snowparK, les meilleurs freestylers ont sorti leurs plus beaux tricks à l’image d’Arthur Pommier et Erwan Le Gludic !
Les plus talentueux furent récompensés…
voici les résultats :
Le vainqueur du Zarbi Snow repartant avec une paire de ski COReUPT : Hugo Zamboran. En deuxième position : Thibault Aycaguer suivi par Erwan Le gludic. Et chez les filles Sarah Dewez l’emporte.
A noter le prix du meilleur déguisement revient à Julien Guilloux, venu en bonhomme LEGO® !!!
2e étape : le ZARBI skate
Date : 17 & 18 Mars
Lieu : park Alai à Biarritz (64)
Conditions climatiques : Youpi ! Yahou !
Au programme le samedi un ZARBI boardercross imposant aux concurrents un duel déguisé dans le skate park préparé à cet effet. A ce jeu «Peyo (Théo Capdepont) est le plus fort.
S’enchaine contest de « hippy jump » et de « ollie » ou respectivement Peyo et le footeux (Georges Poole) s’emparent de la victoire.
A noter la très belle prestation de Dark Vador (Tim Debauche) qui, à 8 ans et du haut de ses 1m30, a réussit de très belles performances notamment sur le « hippy jump » et le « ollie ».
S’ensuivèrent barbecue et concerts avec Mage Against the Rachine et un groupe venu de Tours pour l’occasion, The Chocolate.
Le contest, et cette fois la partie engagée, recommença le dimanche à 14h (afin de donner un peu de répit à nos concurrents après la soirée mouvementée du samedi !). Les concurrents se sont affrontés en duel durant des manches de 4 minutes avec une élimination du moins bon skater à chaque passage. Et cette fois ci c’est Georges Poole qui l’emporte.

2nd. Georges Poole
3e. Tim Debauche (8 ans !)

3e étape : la FLIP FLAP Zarbi (kayak freestyle)
Date : 8 & 9 Mai
Lieu : St Pé de Bigorre (64/65)
Conditions climatiques : On a vu pire !
C’est dans un endroit parfaitement sauvage à l’entrée des Pyrénées que les meilleurs représentants du kayak freestyle français nous ont rejoints pour un week end absolument dantesque.
Le principe ? Surfer en kayak une vague statique dans une rivière et réaliser le plus de figures possibles… Et à ce jeu là c’est Alexandre Besseau (3e mondial) qui l’emporte.
Enfin ça c’était pour la partie engagée (épreuve du Free kayak Tour/Coupe de France) ! Le samedi, en fin d’après midi, le ton changea radicalement…
Le ZARBI peuple s’empara du spot et laissa dériver les engins les plus fous dans une vague teigneuse et difficile à surfer :
Hugo Delauney, chez les hommes, et Pauline Sourrouille, chez les femmes gagnent l’épreuve ZARBI !
Nous garderons une pensée reconnaissante d’Hannibal Dundee, « Sasseur de crocrodiles des Pyrénées » et de son fidèle acolyte Jurgen Patapo « chasseur de morse » pour nous avoir enseigné les rudiments de cette chasse si difficile !!!

4e étape : le ZARBI surf
Date : 22 & 23 Mai
Lieu : plage de la Milady à Biarritz (64)
Conditions climatiques : youpi ! yahou !
Pour la dernière étape comptant pour le classement général du LASTAGE ZARBI Tour ce fut un bouquet final !
Ciel bleu, chaleur estivale, vagues…tout était au rendez vous pour passer un week end incroyable. Et bien ça n’a pas raté !
Le samedi fut rythmé par les embarcations biscornues, des personnages hauts en couleurs et des animations toujours plus délirantes.
Après une lutte acharnée entre les naufragés, Rocky Balboule, Sancho y Pancho et bien d’autres ce sera Aridanordochi le bipède (Anthony Blanc) qui l’emportera le samedi.
Le dimanche donna place à une finale de haut niveau entre le jeune Marc Audo, Roland Lefeuvre, Anthony Blanc et Quentin Giraudet.
Anthony s’imposa finalement et a remporté la shortboard offerte par le shop HSA devant Gabriel Mailhes et Julien Guilloux.

Matt’s 20 years old and lives in Westchester CA. He’s currently rated 208 on the ASP 1 World Rating and will compete in the upcoming 4 Star WQS in Puerto Escondido Mexico and the 6 Star Prime U.S. Open in Huntington Beach, California.

Goals For This Year:
Make the top 100 and Qualify for the Triple Crown. I also want to go on some free surf trips for photos/video and to work more on fine tuning my surfing. I want to be the best I can possibly be and continue to enjoy what I get to do. I also plan on getting some clips for that Taylor Steele project, Innersection.tv.
Besides surfing, I’m in the process of starting a Clean Water Project. Our goal is to give out recycle bins/containers so people can throw their used plastic water bottles in. Then we pick up the plastic bottles and take them to the recycle center to get either 5/10 cents for them. We take that money and donate it to reliable organizations in order to build wells or help some way in keeping our ocean and water clean/accessible. We get clean water, they get clean water.

Josh Szele (Warilla, NSW) was crowned the champion of the 16 years division today at Macca’s Teenage Rampage.

(Cronulla, NSW – Saturday, 9 April 2010): Macca’s Teenage Rampage finished in style today as the southern suburb’s finest tore apart North Cronulla. With the qualification for the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage in the back of all competitors’ minds, all stops were pulled out in fun, windswept conditions.

Local standout Veronica Charles (Cronulla, NSW) was pipped in the final of Macca’s Teenage Rampage, finishing second today at The Alley.

Lining up in the 16 years boys were standouts Josh Szele (Warilla, NSW), Jesse Horner (Cronulla, NSW), Chris Robertson (Cronulla, NSW) and Hank Hartley (Maroubra, NSW).

Seeing some amazing surfing and a plethora of futuristic manoeuvres, it was Szele who reigned supreme over Horner, Robertson and Hartley, who finished second, third and fourth respectively.

At a mere 14 years of age, Szele highlighted to all why he is one of the most anticipated talents in the country defeating his more fancied, and older, competitors.

Having won the 13 years division at last year’s event, Szele went on to finish second in the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage and hasn’t showed any signs of slowing his

“I love these contests,” he said with a beaming smile.

“Being able to surf three times and hang out with your friends all day is awesome.”

Kalani Ball (Stanwell Park, NSW) dominated from the get-go at Cronulla to take the 13 years division.

Accruing a total heat score of 13.60 (out of a possible 20), which included an impressive 7.60 (out of a possible 10), Szele had his backhand arsenal running smooth.

“The conditions were tough,” he continued.

“But, there were some little runners that allowed you to link a few turns together.”

With brother Jarrod finishing second in the 13 years division, the sibling rivalry seems to be proving a successful breeding ground.

“We push each other every time we surf,” Josh admitted.

“It’s a healthy rivalry that seems to be helping us both out.”

Joining Szele on the winner’s podium was Tayla Ayshford (Matraville, NSW), who cruised to victory in the 16 years girls division.

Defeating Veronica Charles (Cronulla, NSW), Lucy Kavanagh (Bondi, NSW) and Grace Bambridge (Maroubra, NSW), who finished second, third and fourth respectively, Asyhford surfed with poise and grace.

Seeing the top four surfers in the male divisions, and the top two surfers in the female divisions, qualifying for the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage at Cronulla in early 2011, Asyhford will pit herself against qualifiers from around the globe.

Future superstar Kalani Ball (Stanwell Park, NSW) took out the 13 years division, whilst Billie Melinz (Coalcliff, NSW) continued her great form to take the corresponding girls division.

The ever-popular Vodafone Happy Hour, with Wombat, kept all beach-goers on the edge of their seats as former ASP World Tour surfer Phil Macdonald gave away cash and a host of great prizes.

Hello all!

My weekend started really nicely! winning my way through to the semi Finals of the Toyota Burleigh Classic with fun little 3 footers running down the rocky at Burleigh Point. With about 10 minutes remaining in my semi needing only a 6.33 i took off on what was the bomb of the heat, only to get fully faded by some absolute gumby who i ran over dinged my board and ended up on the rocks! Stoked! did not break for the rest of the heat…

Leaving the Beach straight away in a hurry to get to Suncorp Stadium to watch the all important Cronulla Sharks VS Brisbane Broncos. Sitting next to my brother with our brand new sharkies jerseys surrounded by drunken Broncos supporters we watch our team get smashed 44 to 16..Should of heard the criticism we copped!!! That’s alright the Sharkies with be back..

Some of the boys are stuck in Scotland bot being able to fly out because of all the Volcanic movement in iceland and its snowing..Have fun boys…

Off to the US of A for Trestles in about 10 days..stay tuned!

Standout Sessions: Southern NSW Surprise, April 7, 2010

Swell size and direction: - 4-5ft from the Sth at 12 seconds. Wind: NW/NE.
State: - Southern NSW.

Getting grommets up is always a difficult task, especially when the swell isn’t doing much. We had been summoned by the boss to do a studio photo shoot down the coast at 9 in the morning. I didn’t even pack a board as the waves were looking like being tiny, so I just picked up a little fun 5”6 quad, off Phil Byrne in the Gong on the way, just in case there was a grovel.

The beaches on the way down were pretty small, and we were wondering if we would even get a chance to get wet at all. Darcy Phillips and Billy Kean were in the car with me. Darcy had never been down south, so he was frothing to sample some juice, something that didn’t look likely to happen.

The product photo shoot had been moved from the studio to the beach, as the bad weather had cleared. Taking our time and in no big rush to get down to the beach, we didn’t arrive at the beach till 10 o clock. The grommets hadn’t shut up for the last two and a half hours, so I was the first to jump out of the car, for a much needed break.

Wow, shock horror, there were waves!! Not just grovel either. The swell was a clean four to five feet, straight out of the south, with the tiniest hint of east. Winds were offshore NW; the tide was low, coming in. Shit, let’s hurry up and get this shoot over with!

Standing on the beach watching perfect five foots pits was punishing, the grommets were wigging out. The shoot broke all records, within an hour we were charging into the water. The rights were firing, but over the course of the last hour, the tide had slowly swallowed the barrelling rights up and left us with leftovers, but some fattish fun rights. Still though the grommets were stoked.

Knowing somewhere else would be firing, the call was made to head further south. Sometimes, this can end in disaster along this stretch of southern NSW coast, as the whole day can become a driving journey in search of the perfect wave, when it may not exist.

The first place we checked was going to be where we surfed not matter what, the grommets were back to their annoying best, and I needed a break again. The waves looked fun enough in the four foot range. So we charged out. Brett Burcher, and a host of up and coming south coast grommets were in the water being coached by Barton Lynch.

The waves, to our surprise were actually really fun and for an hour or so started to really barrel. Darcy snapped his board, as some of the grommets including, Matty king, Russell Bierke and Chaz Raynor, were throwing themselves into double over head green rooms. It was great to see these little groms, really having a go!

All of us surfed till dark, except for Darcy because he only had the one board. The plan was to make the grommets surf that much that they passed out in the car on the way home. This worked until their stomachs demanded I stop at Maccas!

What was supposed to be a semi boring Sponno photo shoot, turned out to be a sick day. We totally lucked out this time!

EX-WORLD champion Barton Lynch believes teenager and Ocean & Earth rider Jordan Lawler can follow an endless stream of quality North Narrabeen surfers and convert his natural talents into results on a wider stage. .

Jordan will be one of eight junior surfers from across Australia joining fellow North Narrabeen teen Tylah Hutchinson, competing in the upcoming Rip Curl GromSearch finals at Bells Beach

Tylah qualified after winning a groms event at North Cronulla in January, while 14-year-old Jordan booked his ticket to Bells after winning two titles in South Australia last November.

What made Jordan’s victories all the more impressive was the youngster fighting above his weight in claiming the 16s crown, to go along with the 14s win.

Lynch is now certain the goofy-footer can follow a long line of North Narrabeen champions and put on a show in Bells from Sunday.

“Narrabeen just continues to be a hotbed of surfing talent,” Lynch, who is Jordan’s coach, said.

“Guys like Simon Anderson, Damien Hardman, Chris Davidson, Nathan Hedge, Laura Enever, Davey Cathels … it’s fair to say Jordan is the next in line of such a great surfing heritage.”

It’s a big call from Lynch, but one he’s prepared to back in young Jordan.

“He’s got youth, he’s got natural ability and he hates to lose,” the 1988 world champion said.

“Last week he didn’t have a good week at training and you could see that was burning away in him, he was stewing over it.

“That is an important ingredient to have.”

The Mater Maria Warriewood year 9 student said Lynch’s influence over the past six months has been life altering.

“He’s helped me with everything,” Jordan said.

“Helped with my surfing, everyday life things and he’s helped me out with sponsors.

“He’s the best guy ever.”

Young Jordan said he will head to Bells tomorrow in a “confident” mood.

“I feel good, I want to get the best result I can,” he said.

Walshy has been in Hawaii since early November chasing big swells all over the island chain, using all kinds of cameras to capture his every wave. After watching him come second in pumping waves against a field of Pipeline specialists at the Volcom Pipe Pro, we got in touch with the Lennox pro to see why he’s been so successful at Pipe, and how this crazy ol’ comp went down.

Ant, you’re more famous for your free-surfing, what made you want to enter the Volcom Pipe Pro?
I love Pipeline so to get it with only three other people out is so sick, especially when it’s pumping.

What do you like about competing?
Winning (laughs).

Is it intimidating coming up against the Hawaiians?
Not at all. I’ve been coming here for a long time and know all the guys really well. It’s only intimidating because I know how good they are out there and then you have to try and rise to that level.

Tell us about the final.
The waves were pretty slow, but there were still some really good ones to be had. I had one good one and didn’t make it, and then could’t find another wave to get in front of Jamie O’Brien. But I’m still really happy with the result.

Did you ever think Aussies would come second and third with so many Pipe specialists in the event?
I dunno, but I think that some of the best surfers at Pipe are Aussies. Look at 2009 Pipeline Masters Champ Taj Burrow for example. Bede (Durbidge) won it a couple years ago too.

How are you going to celebrate?
I’m just going out with family and friends for dinner, no big party or anything.

Do you get a wildcard into the Pipe Masters?
I hope so, but not sure. Probably not with the way everything is with the ASP and Hawaii.

It’s been an epic season huh?
Yeah its been pumping, just swell after swell for weeks. So good.

What’s the biggest waves you caught this season?
I surfed some 20 foot days at Waimea around the time of the Eddie.

When’s are you ever going to get an invite to the Eddie?
That’s never going to happen I’d say. Bummer.

Connor O’Leary and Ellie-Jean Coffey Win the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage

Cronulla local Connor O’Leary was all class in winning the Under 16 Boys division of the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage. For his win, O’Leary pocketed $500.00 and a limited edition Teenage Rampage Champions Ring.

(Cronulla, NSW – Sunday 13th December, 2009): Sun, surf, sand and not to mention the Ocean and Earth International Teenage Rampage was pumping at North Cronulla today as local Connor O’Leary (Cronulla, NSW) snuck home against fellow Cronulla surfer Rory Jenkins by just over one point.

Early on throughout the contest spectators were treated to some outstanding surfing performances by local ace Rory Jenkins (Cronulla, NSW) and Crescent Head’s (NSW) Ellie-Jean Coffey who both headed the race to maintain dominant lead positions on the Teenage Rampage leader board in their respective divisions.

But it was Jenkins’ mate O’Leary who produced what was needed to capture the blue ribbon division with an impressive display of the stylish surfing he has become known for.

O’Leary opened up with an impressive 9.50 in his first wave of the day to take a commanding lead in the 25 minute final.

“Opening with that wave (9.5) was such a confidence booster and I was ecstatic to get that first score on the board,” said O’Leary.

In second behind O’Leary was a gallant Jenkins who made a late charge towards the end of the heat but couldn’t pull off the upset.

“It’s so good what Ocean & Earth put on with the Teenage Rampage,” said O’Leary. “We get treated like the professionals with a Competitors Area and even a media launch!”

However Jenkins made sure that O’Leary didn’t have things all his way in the final by coming within a whisker of winning.

“I couldn’t let Connor (O’Leary) just have the win, it was tough out there and I did the best I could,” said Jenkins.

Novocastrian Jake Sylvester (Bar Beach, NSW) came in third with NSW South Coaster Matty King (Ulladulla, NSW) in fourth.

Ellie-Jean Coffey (Crescent Head, NSW) was in incredible form all weekend winning the Under 16 Girls Division of the Ocean and Earth International Teenage Rampage. Coffey also took home a bonus $500 cash for winning the ‘Dominelli Ford Wave of the Weekend Award’ following her perfect 10-point ride during the Semi Finals.

It was the unstoppable Ellie-Jean Coffey (Crescent Head, NSW), who took out the Under 16 Girls Division final. In second behind Coffey was Cody Klein (Kingscliff, NSW) with Emily Clapoudis (Port Macquarie, NSW) third and April Charles (Cronulla, NSW) fourth.

In the 13 Boys Division it was a clash of the ‘J’ names with Merewether’s (NSW) Jackson Baker taking the honours over Warilla’s (NSW) Josh Szele.

Baker clinched the title with an all or nothing final wave score of 8.67. In third was Jackson Coffey of Crescent Head (NSW) whilst fourth place went to Jack Germain (Lake Cathie, NSW).

The 13 Girls Division saw Holly-Sue Coffey (Crescent Head, NSW) add another trophy to the Coffey family trophy cabinet, winning the tight final from a fast finishing Laura Poncini (Moffat Beach, QLD) , with Cali McDonagh (North Curl Curl, NSW) in third and Renee Heazlewood (Moffat Beach, Qld) in fourth.

The ‘Dominelli Ford Wave of the Weekend’ was taken out by Ellie-Jean Coffey (Crescent Head, NSW) who once again who stood out and rose above the rest by posting a phenomenal 10-point ride out of a possible 10 in her semi-final.

“I saw the set coming and I needed a decent score. I took a chance, went for the wave and it paid off,” said Ellie-Jean. “I think I’m going to go shopping with the prize money and buy a pair of shoes, maybe two!”

Global CEO of Ocean & Earth, Paul Munten, was on hand for the entire event and is excited at the prospect of being involved in unearthing and developing Australia’s future surfing champions.

“Our competition aim has always been to deliver an event that provides a solid pathway and support for young and upcoming surfers to head towards the elite level of the sport,” said Munten.

“The Teenage Rampage series is all about the kids and providing a competition format that is unique to any other. We want to give each competitor every opportunity to improve their contest surfing and the Teenage Rampage format achieves this,” said Munten.

The Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage event is held all over the world including countries such as France, Japan and New Zealand promoting growth and development in the junior surfing ranks.

In conjunction with the event, Cancer Council NSW launched the new ‘Sun Sound’ campaign. The ‘Sun Sound’ is a special harmony produced by musician Ben Lee in a bid to encourage young people to protect their skin this summer.

“We know it’s easy to forget to protect your skin when you’re out having fun in the sun,” said Sofia Khayech of the Skin Cancer Prevention Unit, Cancer Council NSW. “We hope young people really get behind the ‘Sun Sound’ and take it on board as a reminder to protect themselves when they’re outside and hear the Sun Sound”.

Final day of the 2009 Teenage Rampage in the water now at Cronulla

(Cronulla, 13th December, 2009): Whilst the world’s best surfers are locking horns at the final event of the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Tour at Pipeline in Hawaii, the next generation of surfing prodigies have converged on North Cronulla as Day three of the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage is ON.

After six regional qualifiers throughout Australia it all comes down this, the final day.

Mother Nature has been kind over the course of the event and has put on another glorious looking day.

Small conditions and an increasing South-East wind will however make things tricky for competitors, with wave selection being super critical.

First to hit the water will be the Under 13 girls semi-final from 8:00am.

Jarred’s G-Land Chronicles: Early Season

Indonesia is every surfers dream. With waves like Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Desert Point, Scar Reef, G-Land, I spent my teen years fantasizing about pulling into big forehand barrels and slicing my rails into the clean faces. In the mid 90’s I would watch the G-Land WCT Pro videos and freak out on how good the place was!

Finally in 2003 I saved up the money and made my first ever trip to Bali & G-Land, and every year since progressively spent more and more time in Indo.
Last year, 2008, I booked a 4 and a half month trip, my longest yet, and after 6 weeks of hanging at Padang Padang getting countless pipes, I chanced upon scoring a job at G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp (the best surf camp in G-Land)! Suddenly I was the surf guide at my favorite wave in the world.

This year I have just wrapped up a 6 month trip where I based myself in the magical world of G-Land for most of that time. Over the next month I am going to provide a series of photos and stories about my 2009 G-Land season. These chronicles now are early season, mostly in May, which had some real nice waves.

Arriving in G-Land on May 1st, the April crew informed me the waves hadn’t been all that consistent, plenty of offshores, but not the size. That all changed in May, in my first week there were 2 great clean 5-6ft Money Trees as well as super fun in between days. The water was about 28 degrees, almost too hot to even wear a wetsuit vest. The next couple of weeks there were plenty of good swells, and a good crew.

During mid-May we had a big crew of Aussie firefighters having a conference in Bobby’s camp, and then a bunch of lifeguards. It was good vibes in the water with mostly Aussies (and myself the Kiwi), sharing some sick warm water barrels.

May 25th the legendary Speedies really lit up. Super clean, 6-8ft sets on Launching Pads coming into doubling up 4-6ft Speedies, crew were getting pitted off their heads. Tide was super high for a few hours, water still beautiful, and it was certainly the climax to May! Check out the photos, they’re mostly of me surfing Speedies on May 25th, but also a few smaller fun Money Trees days. Clean, warm, early season.

With thirty locals in the event facing some of the world's best qualifiers including nearby island resident Jonathan Gonzalez (Tenerife, CNY) and former ASP Top 45 member Leonardo Neves (BRA), things heat-up fast in a massive tube to vertical re-entry surf show.
Jonathan Gonzalez, currently ranked No. 6 on the ASP European WQS ratings and sitting no. 37 on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) ratings, took top honours on Day 1 of competition, the experienced surfer and multiple finalist at El Confital easily getting through Round 1 with the day's best good heat score, 13.66 points (out of a possible 20).

“The waves were pretty solid but I believe it was a bit too low for our heat still,” Gonzalez said. “It wasn't an easy heat out there but I managed to get a couple of okay scores and I am looking forward for tomorrow's conditions becaue it should be definitely classic..."

Lay Day for Ocean & Earth Pro, Swell to Hit El Confital Tomorrow

EL CONFITAL, Gran Canaria (Wednesday, October 21, 2009) – After several calls throughout the afternoon while monitoring conditions at El Confital, event officials have decided to postpone the kick-off of the ASP WQS 2-Star Movistar Ocean & Earth Pro until tomorrow.

With the much expected new swell supposed to reach El Confital during the night and solid surf in the seven to eight-foot (2.5 meter) to break tomorrow, all competitors are looking forward to tomorrow’s start.

“We waited for the tide to come-in as it usually pushes the waves but nothing really consistent came,” Movistar Ocean & Earth Pro contest director Jose said. “It’s looking like we could get classic Confital tubes in the next couple of days so we’ll be back tomorrow Thursday at 12.00 to make a call.”

Second-to-last event of this year’s ASP European WQS tour, the ASP WQS 2-Star competition could give current mid-ratings’ runners a good opportunity to climb-up before the final event, the awaited classic conditions promising an exciting battle.

With thirty-four Canarian surfers led by Tenerife Island resident and top ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) surfer Jonathan Gonzalez (Tenerife, CNY), 28, readying for their bout against favorites Leonardo Neves (BRA), Ruben Gonzalez (PRT) or Abdel El Harim (MAR), the usual hundreds of spectators will witness another spectacular surf contest running until Sunday, October 25, 2009.

When competition kicks-off, first out will be Canarian favorite Jonathan Gonzalez up against local surfers Gary and Bentor Gonzalez Dominguez.

Le Teenage Rampage débarque enfin en Europe, organisé par Ocean&Earth en partenariat avec CoolShoe, 69Slam, la Surfers Villa (Surf Camp de Seignosse) et le Hossegor Surf Club, cette compétition gratuite réunira samedi 19 septembre dès 9h les meilleurs riders de chaque catégorie.

3 divisions:
Groms : 14 et -
Juniors : 15 à 17 ans
Pro/Am : 18 et +

Le spot de compétition sera choisi dans le courant de la semaine en fonction des conditions (sur Seignosse ou Hossegor) et sera balisé le jour J.

Les inscriptions se font le samedi matin à 9 heures sur le site de compétition.

Le nombre de places est limité à 16 par catégorie alors les premiers inscrits seront les premiers servis!!!

De nombreux lots O+E, CoolShoe et 69Slam sont à gagner.
